TV host, Horacio Villalobos, says that Mexicans ‘like losers’

One of the judges of La Academia, Horacio Villalobos, was heavily criticized on social networks after he insulted Mexicans when he was giving feedback to Rubí, the young woman who went viral in 2016 for inviting «everyone» to her quinceanera party.

The television presenter made reference to the famous characters of Mexican television, El Chapulín colorado and Cantinflas, to discredit the young woman. Horacio didn’t expect internet users to go after him for saying that Mexicans are losers, but he defended himself moments later.

Horacio Villalobos insults Mexicans

A few weeks ago, the 20th season of La Academia began. It’s the famous reality show where young singers compete and people vote for their favorite contestant. Horacio Villalobos is one of the judges and, to everyone’s surprise, Quinceañera Rubí is one of the contestants.

When Villalobos was giving Rubí feedback, he said that Mexicans like losers like the characters El Chapulín Colorado and Cantinflas, and that was why they were supporting her.

Horacio Villalobos told Rubí Ibarra: “In Mexico we like losers and then people identify with you. I would like you to be a winner. There are idols who are winners.” Then the judge began criticizing the young woman.

He continued: «But there are also idols that we like. like El Chapulín Colorado, like Cantinflas who apparently are losers in fictional narratives, that’s what I think.» After these words, the host ended up being harshly criticized on social media.

Horacio Villalobos apologizes on social media

Through Twitter and Instagram, Horacio Villalobos defended himself with the following statement: “I have received thousands of insults for my comment yesterday on La Academia. This occurred when I gave Ruby feedback and I said that the support she had was due to the fact that we in our country like losers.”

“I gave as an example idols like Chapulin Colorado and Cantinflas. First of all, a big apology to those I offended with my comments, of course, including Ruby. I think our country is one of winners. Despite my comment.” In this way he tried to apologize for what he said.
